Peru's government reached an agreement with shipping lines to run special coastal voyages linking production centers with ports including Matarani, Ilo, Callao, Chancay, Chimbote, Salaverry and Paita. The aim is to keep exports flowing as El Niño damages roads and disrupts supply chains.
The trade minister projects exports of $107 billion this year, 17% above 2025.
The plan reduces logistics risk for Peruvian exports, including fishmeal and agricultural goods, when road links are cut. Better port connectivity limits the supply disruption that could otherwise lift prices.
