Argentina's Economy Minister Luis Caputo told UIA industrialists that the exchange rate is a minor factor in business competitiveness and that the main problem is high financing costs. He said SMEs borrow at 70% to 90% while market rates are about 23% to 25%.
The official market rate is near 1,550 pesos per dollar, while the band ceiling could reach about 1,989 this month.
Official policy against devaluation keeps the peso stable against the dollar, which limits the import-cost shock for Argentine feed and grain inputs. Financing costs remain the main pressure on the agricultural and feed-processing sector.
