The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index rebounded 4% to 2,694 points on Wednesday from a more than two-week low, led by stronger Capesize and Panamax rates. Capesize rose 7.2% to 4,097 points, while the Panamax index snapped a 15-session losing streak.
The supramax index fell to its lowest since October 13.
Dry bulk freight rates reflect the cost of moving grain and oilseeds on ocean routes, so a rebound in Capesize and Panamax rates modestly raises shipping costs for feed ingredients. The move is a routine short-term swing rather than a new supply shock.
