Whey protein concentrate 80% (WPC 80) fell from about $13 per lb at its summer peak to $9.20 per lb by Oct. 21, after nearly three years of gains.
Industry sources attribute the drop mainly to buyers cutting purchases after earlier aggressive inventory accumulation, while prices remain well above year-earlier levels near $5.70 per lb.
The pullback reflects destocking by buyers rather than weaker end demand, so prices may stay elevated relative to last year. Reduced buying lowers near-term demand for dairy protein ingredients and could ease upward price pressure.
