Sixteen sampled Chinese listed hog producers posted combined net losses above 28 billion yuan in the first three quarters of 2026. Muyuan lost 9.319 billion yuan and Wens lost 4.961 billion yuan, and the sow herd fell to 36.02 million head, below the 37.5 million regulatory target.
Wens management said it expects hog prices to turn around around Spring Festival 2027.
Heavy losses and sow herd liquidation point to lower hog numbers ahead, which will cut future soymeal and feed demand in China. Cost-cutting does not change near-term feed demand much.
