The October Logistics Managers' Index put US transportation prices at 88 and capacity at 38, both signalling rapid tightening in trucking. Inventory costs reached 88.8, the highest since March 2022, and EIA put diesel at $6.292 a gallon, down 6 cents on the week.
Rising US truck rates and diesel costs raise the cost of moving feed ingredients and finished feed inland, which feeds into delivered prices for buyers. The analysis expects contract freight increases into 2027 even though diesel dipped slightly.
After 113 past bullish logistics events, ULSD / Diesel moved a median +0.6% over 5 sessions (54% higher; middle half -2.8% to +4.2%), and +0.2% over 20.
