Ukraine's oilseed processing has shifted from deep-water ports to the Danube, rail and western borders, which raises transport, insurance and storage costs. Vegetable oil exports from July to October 28 totaled about 1.26 million tonnes, down 18% year on year, mainly because sunflower oil shipments fell.
The EU has become the dominant destination, taking more than half of Ukrainian sunflower oil exports.
Sunflower oil is losing efficient access to distant buyers such as India and China, which shifts flows toward the EU and lowers plant utilisation and seed demand. Higher logistics costs are being passed into farm-gate seed bids, which tightens the link between Ukrainian processing margins and seed prices.
