From 30 December 2026, large and medium-sized operators in the EU must prove that relevant commodities did not contribute to deforestation and were produced legally. The regulation covers cattle, cocoa, coffee, oil palm, rubber, soy and wood, with extended deadlines for smaller operators until 30 June 2027.
Geolocated traceability requirements can slow or reroute EU imports of soy and palm oil, adding compliance costs that may favour certified origins. Price effects are likely gradual and limited.
