Indian grain-based ethanol producers asked the government to revise procurement prices and supply rules for 2026/27 as corn prices rose 50% over the past year, from Rs 18 to Rs 27 per kg. The corn-based ethanol procurement price was cut to Rs 68.86 per litre, while cheaper rice and damaged-grain ethanol is gaining orders.
Higher Indian corn costs tighten domestic feed and ethanol supply, while cheaper rice-based ethanol may shift demand away from corn. The net effect is firmer Indian corn prices with pressure on corn ethanol plants.
