USDA announced an $8 billion Harvest Fuel Relief Program in October to help farmers facing higher production costs and market losses. Payment rates for cotton, peanut, corn and soybean growers are expected in November, based partly on acreage reported to the Farm Service Agency, and USDA has not yet announced when applications open.
Fuel relief can help growers keep planting and harvesting despite high diesel costs, but because payments are tied to acreage rather than output, they are unlikely to change feed grain supply or prices much.
