The State Bank of Vietnam announced a USD/VND swap of up to $2 billion with a 182-day tenor. Only banks with qualifying foreign or international bond debt can participate, and the cap for each bank is 80% of its eligible foreign debt.
The swap could support about 52 trillion dong, under 0.3% of system credit.
The longer tenor gives banks more predictable funding, which may support lending. The impact on the dong-dollar rate is small, so feed import costs are largely unaffected.
