USDA's latest Cattle on Feed report showed feeder cattle placements into feedlots in September down 12% from a year earlier, extending a run of declines since May. On-feed inventories are down most sharply in Idaho, Iowa, Colorado and Texas.
Fewer placements will constrain fed cattle marketings into early 2027, with heavier weights only partly offsetting the supply gap, supporting fed cattle and live cattle prices.
After 268 past bullish report events, Live Cattle moved a median +0.3% over 5 sessions (58% higher; middle half -0.7% to +1.4%), and +1.7% over 20.
