China's live hog futures main contract closed at a record low of 9,150 yuan/tonne on November 3, down 4.09% in one day, while spot hog prices approached April's historic low at 4.47 yuan/jin. Official data showed breeding sow inventory fell to 36.02 million head in Q3 2026, down 10.7% year on year, and industry losses have run for 14 months.
Ample market supply keeps hog prices under pressure now, but shrinking breeding sows point to lower pork output from around mid-2026 onward, which would eventually support feed demand for corn and soymeal.
