Mexico is increasingly dependent on imported corn to meet total consumption. Estimates from the Grupo Consultor de Mercados Agrícolas put 2026 domestic output at 23.5 million tonnes against demand of about 48.2 million.
Imports are projected to reach 24.8 million tonnes, above 2025, supporting demand for US and other foreign yellow corn used in livestock and food industries. Structural import reliance tends to firm international corn prices and freight demand.
