The Indian rupee closed at 94.74 on Monday, up from 94.90, as Brent crude retreated from six-month highs toward $104 a barrel. The currency traded between 94.60 and 94.88 ahead of the US midterm elections.
Lower oil prices ease India's import bill and support the rupee, which reduces inflation pressure on feed and food costs. Softer crude also weighs on energy-linked feed input costs such as freight and fertiliser.
