South Korea detected the first H5-type avian influenza antigen of the 2026-2027 winter at a laying hen farm in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi, housing about 91,000 birds. The government issued a nationwide 24-hour movement halt for poultry farms, slaughterhouses and feed mills while confirmatory tests determine whether the strain is highly pathogenic.
If confirmed highly pathogenic, outbreaks and movement restrictions can cut Korean poultry output and feed demand, and may trigger import demand shifts for poultry and feed ingredients.
