Philippine Treasury bill yields rose across all tenors at Tuesday's auction, with the 91-day rate reaching 6.438 percent from 6.264 percent. The Treasury received P84.02 billion in tenders against a P50 billion offering but awarded only P42.8 billion, rejecting some high-yield bids.
The move follows a 50 basis point policy rate hike by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas to 5.5 percent on Oct. 22.
Higher domestic rates and inflation expectations raise financing costs for Philippine feed producers and livestock operators, and the rate-driven currency pressure feeds into the cost of imported feed ingredients. The effect on global grain prices is limited.
