US biofuel producers cut soybean oil use by 17% month-on-month in August 2026 to 1.40 billion pounds, mainly from a 28.2% drop among renewable diesel producers. Canola oil use rose 15.5%, while tallow and corn oil use also fell and waste oil imports rose 62% year-on-year.
Lower soybean oil demand from biofuel producers and rising inventories push soybean oil prices down, while canola oil gains share. Analysts expect a gradual recovery in late 2026 and early 2027 but the timing is uncertain.
