The ringgit opened higher against the US dollar on Friday at 4.0880/0945, up slightly from Thursday's close, as markets weighed the government's fiscal position ahead of the 2027 budget tabling. The currency was mixed against other majors, weakening against the euro, yen and pound while firming against the Singapore dollar.
Analysts said fiscal discipline and expectations of a narrowing deficit are supporting the ringgit.
Expectations of fiscal consolidation support the ringgit, which slightly lowers the local-currency cost of dollar-priced feed imports. The move is small, so the effect on feed ingredient prices is limited.
