A University of Southern Queensland study using barley seed from the Darling Downs, including near Oakey, has produced provisional results. Researcher Dr Noel Knight is examining whether fungicide-resistant net blotch can spread between crops and seasons through infected seed.
If fungicide-resistant net blotch spreads through seed, Australian barley yields could fall and disease control costs could rise. The findings are provisional, so the price effect is limited for now.
