Construction of the Nezhin potash mining and processing complex in Belarus has run for about 10 years and is far behind its original 2022 launch target. China reportedly halted financing to avoid Western sanctions, and Lukashenko has offered to sell the mine to the US for $3 billion.
US authorities have not yet responded to the offer.
Delays at Nezhin keep Belarusian potash supply constrained, which limits any new sanctions-free volumes reaching global markets. Any eventual sale or restart would be a medium-term factor for potash prices rather than an immediate one.
