A weekly waterfowl report says no Mid-South state has posted a 2026-27 duck count yet, and that drought worsened in Arkansas, with 37% of the state in exceptional drought. The Mississippi River at Memphis fell about 3 feet in a week to near -4 feet, and birds are gathering north of the region.
Low river levels and drought in the Mid-South mainly affect barge freight and hunting conditions rather than grain supply, so the direct effect on feed commodity prices is minimal. Shallow river levels can raise barge costs for grain moving south, which is a small upward pressure on freight.
