Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Eli Remolona Jr. said the central bank is not yet considering rate cuts and remains in a tightening cycle to contain inflation. The BSP raised its benchmark rate 50 basis points to 5.50% on October 22, its fourth hike this year, and has raised rates 125 basis points since April.
Continued tightening keeps Philippine borrowing costs high and the peso under pressure, which can dampen feed demand from local livestock and poultry producers. Inflation possibly reaching 8% from higher food and energy prices is a mild negative for feed-grain import demand.
