December corn closed Monday at $4.48 per bushel, nearly unchanged, after a series of bearish USDA reports cut prices by over 75 cents since late September. US corn harvest was 74% complete, three points behind average, and national yield stands at 181.3 bushels per acre.
Ethanol and export demand are seen as the near-term price drivers.
With prices already well down, the market is looking to demand and South American and Black Sea supplies, so further gains need a meaningful yield cut or stronger demand. For feed buyers, ample supplies point to a stable to softer corn cost outlook.
