The European Commission cleared Koch's plan to take joint control of a Moroccan phosphate fertilizer plant owned by OCP. KAES Phosphate Holdings, a Koch company, will buy 50% of Jorf Fertilizers Company I from OCP Nutricrops, creating a 50/50 joint venture.
The Commission approved the deal on 30 October under its simplified merger review.
The deal is a corporate ownership change with no new supply added, so it has little immediate effect on phosphate prices. It does tie a large Moroccan producer more closely to a major US fertilizer company, which may shape future export and marketing decisions.
