The Baltic Dry Index fell 58 points, or 2.14%, to 2,590 on Tuesday, its lowest level since October 19, as rates declined across all vessel classes. Capesize rates dropped 3.58% to 3,821 and the Panamax index fell for a 15th straight session to 1,866, its lowest since April 13.
Weaker dry bulk freight rates lower the cost of moving grain and meal by sea, which can ease landed costs for importers, though the Panamax decline points to soft Atlantic and Pacific grain shipping demand.
