Oilseed workers' unions FTCIODyARA and SOEA San Lorenzo met senators from Santa Fe, together with the crushers' chamber CIARA, to oppose the Ley Bases omnibus bill. They said they would immediately halt crushing and cotton-ginning plants when the bill reaches a full Senate vote.
The unions argue the bill's labor reform, tax package and privatizations would worsen conditions.
A plant shutdown during the vote would cut Argentine soybean crushing, the source of most soymeal and soyoil exports, which could tighten global meal and oil supplies. The threat is conditional on the bill reaching a vote, so the price effect is currently uncertain.
