USDA FAS raised its estimate of Argentina's 2026/27 sunflower seed output by 8% to a record 740,000 tonnes, on planted area of 3.3 million hectares, up 200,000 hectares. It also raised the crush forecast by 7% to 6 million tonnes, with monthly crush near 540,000 tonnes from March to August, the highest in nearly two decades.
A larger Argentine crop and crush add supply to sunflower meal and oil markets, which is bearish for prices. Sunflower's lower fertilizer needs also make it more competitive against corn.
