The ringgit opened marginally higher against the US dollar on Tuesday at 4.0690/0750, after hopes of US-Iran diplomatic talks. Brent crude fell 8.12% to $104.21 a barrel, and lower US Treasury bill yields suggested reduced expectations of a Federal Reserve rate hike.
Progress in talks could reopen the Strait of Hormuz and restore oil shipping, easing crude prices and inflation pressure. Lower Fed hike expectations weaken the dollar, supporting Asian currencies such as the ringgit.
