Chinese imports of US farm products excluding soybeans totaled $7.2 billion from January to September, the lowest for that period since 2019, according to a Reuters analysis of customs data. Purchases of corn, sorghum and meat are lagging the $17 billion annual pledge announced in May.
Slower Chinese buying of US corn and sorghum weakens the export outlook and adds downside pressure to those prices. Soybean purchases are reported as on track, so the impact falls mainly on grains and meat.
After 683 past bearish trade events, Corn moved a median -0.2% over 5 sessions (47% higher; middle half -1.7% to +1.6%), and +0.3% over 20.
