Commerzbank analyst Volkmar Baur said EUR/USD moved back above 1.15 for the first time since mid-June after eurozone GDP outpaced US growth on an annualized basis. He noted a very low US savings rate as a future drag on US GDP and said recent inflation data eases the path for an ECB hike in September.
Relative growth and expected ECB tightening support the euro against the dollar, which lifts dollar-priced commodity values. Baur flagged that part of the move could reverse if BoJ-related flows fade.
After 388 past bullish macro events, Euro (USD per EUR) moved a median +0.3% over 5 sessions (62% higher; middle half -0.4% to +1.1%), and +0.1% over 20.
