China announced a temporary suspension of tariffs on Canadian canola meal and peas, which will no longer face 100% duties, and cut levies on lobsters and crabs to 25%. The suspension runs from March 1, 2026 to the end of the year and follows a deal in which Canada allows up to 49,000 Chinese electric vehicles a year at a 6.1% tariff, with no change to canola seed tariffs.
Removing the 100% duty on canola meal reopens a major export route for Canadian meal to China, which supports canola meal prices, though the unchanged seed tariffs limit the overall benefit to the canola complex.
