The USDA selected eight fertilizer manufacturing projects for funding under its Fertilizer Investment & Expansion for Long-Term Domestic Supply Program. The projects total more than $1.34 billion in proposed investment, including about $573 million in USDA funding, and the program redirects unspent funds from a Biden-era fertilizer program.
The projects aim to expand domestic fertilizer capacity over the long term, but they will not add meaningful supply in the near term. Little immediate price effect is expected, though the policy may slightly reduce US dependence on imported nitrogen and phosphate.
