Peru's annual inflation accelerated to 5.3% in October, above the target range for an eighth straight month. Monthly inflation of 0.57% was well above the 0.13% consensus, driven by fish and seafood (up 11.7%), vegetables and corn (up 45.3%), and transport costs.
Core inflation rose to 4.6%.
Higher Peruvian food prices, including fish and corn, point to tighter domestic supply and stronger input costs for local feed and livestock producers. The central bank is expected to raise its policy rate by a cumulative 50 basis points to 4.75%, which would increase financing costs for feed buyers.
