Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries reported an average national price of 312 yen per egg pack, up 3 yen from the prior month and a record since surveys began in 2003. Imported beef prices are 27% above normal and chicken 15% above normal, while pork is only 5% above normal.
Record egg prices and higher poultry costs point to tight Japanese protein supply, and cheaper pork relative to chicken may shift domestic demand toward pork. Effects on international feed grain prices are modest.
