The first and second stages of the Nezhin Mining and Processing Plant in the Lyuban district have been launched, according to First Deputy Prime Minister Nikolai Snopkov, who said the plant plans to produce 500 thousand tonnes of potash fertilisers in 2026. The project, begun in 2016 by Slavkaliy, stalled after sanctions in 2021 and resumed in late 2023 under the state enterprise Netry Nezhin, with about 400 thousand tonnes produced so far.
New Belarusian potash capacity adds to global supply of a fertiliser that is closely tied to sanctions policy, so it is modestly bearish for potash prices if output ramps as planned. Output is still small relative to the global market, so the effect is limited.
