Sri Lanka's National Fertilizer Secretariat says sufficient fertilizer stocks are available for the upcoming Maha season, with distribution already under way. About 180,000 tonnes of urea are needed, with roughly 218,000 tonnes expected to be available once three arriving vessels are unloaded and further imports for November and December arrive.
Adequate stocks of TSP and SSP basal fertilizers are also reported, about 31,000 tonnes against a requirement of 25,000 tonnes.
Secured domestic urea and phosphate stocks reduce emergency import buying in a small importing market, a modest bearish signal for regional fertilizer demand. Feed buyers see limited direct effect, though fertilizer costs feed into grain and oilseed production economics.
