CMA CGM will add a US$35 per TEU war risk surcharge on cargo to and from Black Sea countries, effective 9 November 2026, with a later start of 1 December 2026 for the US, Australia, New Zealand and certain Latin American trades. The carrier cites deteriorating security in the Black Sea and the Joint War Committee's September 2026 designation of the area as a war risk zone.
It also raised a US$150 per TEU dangerous goods surcharge on selected North Europe, Mediterranean and North Africa routes.
Higher container surcharges raise the cost of moving Black Sea trade and add to ocean freight expenses for feed-relevant cargo, which can narrow export competitiveness for Black Sea grain and meal. The effect on benchmark grain prices is modest because the charge is a single per-box fee.
