BIMCO says the dry bulk shipping outlook is mixed, driven by the de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz and risks in the Black Sea. Hormuz routes normally account for about 4 per cent of dry bulk demand, and alternative routes have not fully replaced lost traffic.
BIMCO has developed two forecast scenarios.
Lost Hormuz routing and Black Sea attack risk raise freight costs and tighten grain and fertiliser logistics, supporting ocean freight and adding upside risk to feed commodity prices.
