The USDA pork cutout closed October 30 at $70.10/cwt, down from $74.09 the prior Friday and $80.55 two weeks earlier, a drop of about 13% in two weeks. The national negotiated cash hog base fell to $60.29/cwt and December lean hog futures lost $6.70 in the week to $58.875/cwt, while federally inspected slaughter stayed substantial at about 2.608 million head.
Weaker carcass values, cash hogs and futures together point to continued pressure on producer margins, with some support from pork export sales led by Mexico. Feed buyers should expect softer hog-related demand signals unless demand stabilises.
