The US State Department is funding a roughly $1.5 million, two-year program led by CrossBoundary to help Australian miner PhosCo raise up to $100 million for its Gasaat phosphate project in Tunisia. Washington is also supporting potash development in Gabon as it seeks to diversify fertilizer supply.
Neither project has secured binding US investment or purchase commitments.
The effort targets future supply diversification rather than near-term tonnage, so the immediate price impact on potash and phosphate is limited. It does signal official US concern about import dependence in fertilizer minerals.
