The South Korean won weakened sharply against the U.S. dollar on Monday, Nov. 2, to 1,343.8 won per dollar at 3:30 p.m., down 9.5 won from the prior session.
Dealers attributed the move to institutional traders locking in gains after the won's recent advance, and foreign investors sold a net 374 billion won of local shares.
A weaker won raises the local-currency cost of dollar-priced feed imports for Korean buyers, so the move makes US-origin feed slightly more expensive in won terms. The effect on global grain prices is minimal.
