Malaysia's benchmark January palm oil futures fell 0.49% to 4,658 ringgit per tonne on Monday. Crude oil dropped more than 1%, weakening the competitiveness of palm biodiesel, while gains in Dalian and Chicago soyoil limited the decline.
A weaker ringgit and strong private estimates of October export growth also cushioned prices.
Weaker crude reduces biodiesel demand for palm, a bearish factor. Firmer soyoil and a softer ringgit provide substitution and export support that limits the downside.
