WAFarmers is surveying Western Australian growers on yield losses in Bayer's TruFlex canola, with reports of up to 70% losses in some cases. The problem appears worse where plants were under moisture deficit or frost stress, and it does not affect all TruFlex varieties equally.
Losses in Australian canola would reduce exportable seed supply and support canola meal and oil prices. The scale is regional, so the effect on global oilseed prices is likely modest unless the problem spreads.
