Wisconsin's weekly livestock update reports that the Cattle on Feed report showed Oct. 1 feedlot inventory at 11.37 million head, 0.4% below last year, with September placements down 12%.
Fed cattle marketings fell 7% from a year earlier, and Mexican feeder cattle imports resumed at lower weekly volumes than before the ban. The Choice beef cutout averaged $370.55, down $4.15 for the week.
Lower feedlot placements and marketings tighten near-term cattle supply, but a falling beef cutout signals weak wholesale demand that pressures live cattle prices. Feeder cattle values remain sensitive to the pace of Mexican import resumption.
