A Kuala Lumpur analyst warned that a US rate hike in December could push the ringgit to a record low near 5.00 per dollar if no capital measures are applied. Other strategists and economists quoted expect the ringgit to end the year between 4.20 and 4.40, while the currency is around 4.25 to 4.50 now.
A weaker ringgit would raise the cost of dollar-priced feed imports for Malaysian buyers, but the mainstream forecasts point to a stable currency, so the commodity price effect is limited.
