Emerging Asian currencies were under pressure ahead of inflation data from Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, South Korea and Taiwan. The won was at 1,346.90 per dollar and the rupiah at about 18,165, close to its June record low.
Foreign equity selling has reduced routine won conversion demand, and the report notes that higher US yields and pricier oil add pressure on the rupiah.
Hotter inflation prints could push rate expectations higher and further weaken regional currencies, raising dollar-priced feed import costs. Softer data would have the opposite effect, so the feed cost impact depends on the inflation outcome.
