Farm-gate egg prices in Vietnam have fallen to as low as 1,200 dong apiece, below production costs of about 1,500 to 1,700 dong. Supermarket prices run two to three times higher, with industrial eggs selling for 29,000 to 37,000 dong per 10-egg pack.
Oversupply at the farm level is not reaching shoppers, so producers are absorbing losses. Smaller farms are cutting flocks or shutting down, which could eventually tighten supply and support prices.
