Researchers at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley received new grant funding to study drought and heat tolerance in sorghum at the cellular and genetic level. The Rio Grande Valley's water supply is shrinking and farmers are rationing water.
This is long-term crop research with no near-term effect on supply. It may eventually lead to more stress-tolerant sorghum and corn varieties.
