The Panama Canal Authority resumed temporary booking slots for Panamax locks on October 21 after suspending them during water constraints. The move follows an October 15 increase in daily Neopanamax transits to ten, bringing combined daily slots across both lock sets to 33.
More canal slots ease transit bottlenecks for bulk grain and oilseed cargoes moving from US Gulf and Pacific Northwest ports to Asia, which can lower freight costs. Slot availability remains subject to water levels, so the relief is limited.
